Cave Springs Farm
"Home Grown & Horse Powered"

Established in 2003, Cave Springs Farm is located in Jefferson County in southeastern Indiana.  The 1930's farmstead had been rental property for a period of years and was somewhat neglected when we first arrived, but we saw potential.  The 60 acres is a balance of timber, pasture and tillable ground.   We see ourselves as stewards of the land.  With this in mind, the farm is cared for using the practices of sustainable agriculture.  Our team of Belgian draft horses provide all of the farm power.  Soil fertility is maintained using well-timed applications of composted manure produced by livestock raised on the farm.

All livestock are raised in a humane, natural environment with plenty of access to fresh air and sunshine.  No hormones or anti-biotics are given to enhance growth.  No animal by-products are mixed into the feed.  We also manage the farm to promote wildlife.  Holistic methods of control help insure that all animals that share the farm's bounty, both wild and domestic, can co-exist in harmony.

While the methods may be old fashioned to some, it allows us to slow down and develop a personal relationship with the land.  In the words of Lyndon B. Johnson, "The best fertilizer a piece of land can have is the footsteps of its owner."  Whether it's moving livestock to a lush new pasture; plowing new cropland with a team of horses; or just enjoying time in the woods, we "fertilize" our land on a regular basis.
